In February at Centennial Place we had a great little get together over some coffee with music. It was quite a relaxing night with several refreshments including coffee and cookies, which were a hit. This was an opportunity for us to showcase the muscial talents of our members and spend some time relaxing with friends.
Welcome to the Events page! Here you will find a snapshot of our most popular events and activities which we have offered over the last year. From a Summer Dance, to a local Adopt-A-Block cleanup to our Christmas party we have something fun for everyone here at Centennial Place.
Last summer members and staff from Centennial Place participated in a clean up event at the Rockin River festival at the Mission Raceway. It was one of the bigger events of the season with one of the highest attendance of the summer for any activity or event. The weather was nice and warm. A bit hot while working but otherwise it was a pleasant day and the free coffee and cookies provided were well received and enjoyed. There was also a lunch provided after all the work was completed.
The Summer Wellness Challenge was chosen because of all the fun activities and participation it drew out. This event ran last summer in three parts; each part was one month long.
Every year we here at Centennial Place are given the opportunity to give back to our community by partnering with Adopt-A-Block. We help by cleaning up garbage and in return we are able to raise awareness of Centennial Place as well as receive a small sum of money to use for programming. We have three cleanups each year; a spring cleanup, fall cleanup and a shoreline cleanup.
This years dance was a wrap up for our Summer Wellness Challenge (and has been for the last two years). We danced the night away with great music being played by our favorite DJ Don.
Our Christmas party is an important and much appreciated event which we hosted this last year. Our Christmas party/dinner took place in the evening on December 19th and featured food from Greek Islands. We had a great time together singing Christmas carols, sharing favorite memories and taking the time to relax during an otherwise busy winter season. We also met together on the 23rd of December for a Christmas themed ice-skate at the local Mission Leisure Center.
Last summer, we (as the Clubhouse programs in the Fraser-East region) took turns hosting inter-clubhouse barbeques with Rainbow House of Maple Ridge, Abby House of Abbotsford and Cheamview of Chilliwack. All of the barbeques were lots of fun, with each providing something a little different.
Mission Fest has become an event that everyone in Mission looks forward to, and Centennial Place provides volunteers for it, as well as having our own booth. It can be a tiring day for a volunteer but well worth it, as it is a great way to mingle with people, help out and see everything.
Our yearly Mental Health Week is undoubtedly our busiest and one of the greatest events which we host on a yearly basis. The event itself was started as a Canada-wide initiative of the Canadian Mental Health Association and is now in its 64th year. We at Centennial Place (CP) have participated in Mental Health Week (MHW) every year for the last 3 years. This event has become our unofficial beginning of a new year as the month of May also marks our yearly anniversary here at CP. During this week we open up our program to the public and invite our greater community to come and learn more about the services which we provide.
This past November, we celebrated the one year anniversary of our website with a party. This was a great opportunity to raise awareness of our webiste and direct attention to all the hard work which is done on a weekly basis to keep our website interesting and current.
